Fighting Insecurity Requires Collective Effort Of Government, Citizenry -Professor Kila

ADEWALE AJAYI

The Professor of Communication, Anthony Kila has sought for collective responsibility between government and the citizenry, to be able to tackle the problem of insecurity in Nigeria.

Speaking on the topic “Restoring Hope And Safety In Nigeria: Practical Solutions To Overcome Insecurity” as the guest speaker at the 10th anniversary of Top Society Magazine/ online publication, Professor Kila noted that unless there is concerted effort by the government and the general public to stem insecurity, it will be difficult.

He said,”We have collective and individual responsibility role to play if we want to curb insecurity.

“Security is the duty of all, the interest of all, wherever we may find ourselves.”

He explained that, the democracy we enjoy today was not like that in the past, but Adolph Hitler decided to challenge dictatorship forces and defeated them, that is why we have the democracy we are enjoying today.”

Professor Kila said if the society is determined to put the bandits in check, there is the need for preventive measure and provision for getting updated security security report.

Best way over criminality is prevention, there is the need for security report, let the police officers have good relationship with the community. If we know ourselves, we will  know the child of who is doing what is bad,if we are able to know ourselves, we see our child going bad way, we need the community correction.”

Professor Kila added that there is the need to encourage people in fighting insecurity by making provision for incentive, that will encourage more people to be interested in fighting insecurity.

We need to create interest and incentive, that is the only way we can shut our way out of insecurity.

“There is the need to create a  society where bad people will be afraid. If we don’t do that everything will not work.”

Professor Kila noted that, insecurity should be confronted with concerted effort because, those who are tinkering with the security of the country wanted to take away the country’s sovereignty.

He maintained  that the government needs to provide hope and security so that the citizens can have plan for what to be  done in future.

Hope is a logical explanation that things go well, if you do the right thing, you will have the right report. This is the assumption that things will be fine.

“The perception understanding of people that things will be fine. When you  introduce hope anywhere there is more than one person, you have the impression that things will be fine.

“We have  to give assurance of hope  wherever you are.

“Close to hope is safety. Look at strategy of communication. How can we reduce the exposure we are into safety.

“To have a safe environment, we have to put into consideration Intellect: lead people  to survive one need to be safe before you plan, let us build a house.

” Providing the concept of safety leads to a concept of generosity. Hope and safety, what comes to mind is security so you say you can plan you can  hope. When you mention safety it is how secured the society is.

“Legitimate and superior force determine the state.Legitimate made it possible,to obey security.Legitimate and superior force provide security. When we talk of security, we talk of the force it create.

“When we think or reason,we talk  of consequence not the sequence. Robbery? What led us there? Banditary, kidnapping what led us there?

“Extortion, chaos is a form of insecurity. When we think of government, we talk of services.

“First thing government needs to provide is certainty.Unertainity is first cause to insecurity, when things happen, we don’t know who to ask.

“Ethical reason, need to look at the mindset of people, need to imagine them,it is war when it comes to insecurity, they want to take our souvereignity, there is the need to create job,” Professor Kila explained.
