President Bola Tinubu has said the illegal miners who caused the explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State, must be brought to book.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier disclosed that the explosion which occurred on Tuesday was as a result of the activities of illegal miners, who stored explosive devices in one of the buildings in the Bodija area of Ibadan.
Tinubu in a statement signed by his Special Adviser to on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale quoted his principal as saying, “It is worrisome that the cause of the blast is being attributed to the activities of illegal miners. Those behind the inexcusable and reckless behaviour that has created the conditions for the sad incident to occur must be fished out and punished.”
Tinubu, who expressed sadness over the devastating explosion, commiserated with the government and people of Oyo State.
The president also called on all concerned agencies of government to unravel the circumstances that led to the tragedy with alacrity.
President Tinubu also directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to work with the Oyo State Government to offer immediate and comprehensive relief to the victims.
