Adewale Ajayi,
The Supreme Court has affirmed Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) as duly elected and returned as Governor of the State in the 18th March Governorship poll.
The tribunal had unanimously upheld INEC’s declaration and return of Lawal-Dare following the petition of APC’s Bello Matawalle.
However, reading the lead Judgement, Justice Sybil Nwaka-Gbagi JCA of the Appeal Court ordered a re-run election in several wards in 3 LGAs.
Dissatisfied with the outcome, Gov Lawal-Dare approached the Apex Court praying for the reversal of the judgement of the Appeal Court.
Supreme Court then rule that “the decision of the Court of Appeal has no evidential foundation.
“The judgement of the Court of Appeal delivered in November is set aside. The order setting aside the appellant’s election is set aside. And the election of the Appellant is upheld.”
