Adewale Ajayi,
The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu as Governor of Lagos State.
Justice Garba Lawal who read the lead judgment dismissed the appeal filed by the Labour Party governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour challenging Sanwo-Olu running Dr.Obafemi Hamzat of renouncing his Nigeria citizenship so he cannot stand for an election and has no substance.
Justice Lawal held that the deputy governor was duly qualified to contest the election.
The main issue for determination, Rhodes-Vivour had contended that Obafemi Hamzat, deputy governor of Lagos, was not qualified to be sponsored by the All Progressives Congress (APC) having renounced his Nigerian citizenship and taken up that of the US.
However, the court held that there is no credible evidence to show that the deputy governor renounced his Nigerian citizenship.
