Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday elected Jerry Afemikhe as its candidate for the Surulere Federal Constituency 1, bye election which comes up February 3, 2024.
The bye election is to fill the seat vacated by former Speaker of the House of Representative, Hon. Femi Gbajamiala who is now serving as the Chief of Staff (COS) to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Afemikhe popularly called “Olori Odo” emerged victorious in the primary polling 17 votes out of 18 votes cast by the accredited Ad-hoc Delegates.
The primary that was conducted in a free and fair manner was monitored by the officials of the Independent National Electoral Committee (INEC)led by Mohammed Mainasara Ahmed just as men the Nigerian Police were on ground to provide security.
Members of the State Executive Committee (SEC) of the party led by the State Secretary, Hon. Soji Orioye were also present at the primary.
Afemikhe will be contesting against candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), candidate Fuad Laguda and the Labour Party (LP) flag bearer, Adeola Adebanjo, among others.
Speaking after his victory, Afemikhe expressed his strong commitment to serve the communities in the Surulere Federal Constituency 01,diligently saying that he would deploy his experience to offer dynamic leadership to address the challenges of the Constituency.
Afemikhe said he would work in line with his campaign slogan tagged: “Join me, Let’s empower our people,” he therefore urged the people of Surelere Federal Constituency 1 to vote for him en mass,promising to deliver on the promises made to the electorate.
