A former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, has arrived at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Abuja over allegations of financial mismanagement of her ministry.
Umar-Farouq, who served in the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, arrived the anti graft office at about 10am.
She is at the EFCC office to honour the invitation by the anti-graft agency to offer clarifications on allegations of financial mismanagement of her ministry when she was in charge which the commission is investigating.
The former minister had earlier indicated her desire to honour the Commission’s invitation.
“I remain proud to have served my country as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with every sense of responsibility and will defend my actions, stewardship and programmes during my tenure whenever I am called upon to do so,” she was quoted to have said.
The Monday visit to the EFCC office, located in Jabi District of Abuja, was at her behest.
The EFCC had threatened to arrest the minister if she fails to honour its invitation.The minister was expected at the anti graft office last week but did not turn up at their office.
Rising to her defence her lawyer said she could not honour the invitation because of her ill health.
