President Bola Tinubu has submitted a formal request to the Senate, urging the confirmation of 11 nominees for appointment as Justices of the Supreme Court.
This development was disclosed during the plenary session on Wednesday, as Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the President’s letter.
The Senate Committee on Judiciary and Legal Matters has swiftly responded to the President’s request, initiating the screening process for the nominees put forth by the National Judicial Council.

Among the prominent figures recommended for the positions is Justice Haruna Tsammani, whose role as the chair of the 2023 Presidential Election Petition Court has earned recognition.
The list of nominees includes individuals such as Hon. Justice Jummai Hannatu Sankey, OFR; Hon. Justice Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa; Hon. Justice Chioma Egondu Nwosu-Iheme; Hon. Justice Moore Aseimo A. Adumein; Hon. Justice Obande Festus Ogbuinya; Hon. Justice Stephen Jonah Adah; Hon. Justice Habeeb Adewale O. Abiru; Hon. Justice Jamilu Yammama Tukur; Hon. Justice Abubakar Sadiq Umar; and Hon. Justice Mohammed Baba Idris.
If confirmed, these nominees will contribute to filling the vacancies within the Supreme Court, bringing the apex court’s total number of justices to the constitutionally envisaged 21.
