Lalong Takes Oath as Plateau South Senator in 10th Assembly 


Former Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, was officially sworn in as the Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District during the plenary session held at the upper chamber of the National Assembly on Wednesday.

Lalong, who had recently resigned from his position as the Minister of Labour and Employment, underwent the swearing-in ceremony following a letter submitted to the President on Tuesday.

In the letter, Lalong highlighted the legal journey that culminated in the Court of Appeal declaring him the duly elected Senator for Plateau South Senatorial District. The court’s decision mandated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue him the Certificate of Return.

Lalong Confirms Resignation as Minister, Set to Become Plateau South Senator   

Expressing the gravity of his decision to step down from the ministerial role, Lalong emphasized the trust and confidence bestowed upon him by the President, citing his past service as the Director General of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Council. This campaign council played a key role in securing victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his resignation letter, Lalong conveyed that the choice was not made lightly, considering the President’s trust in him and the critical role he played in delivering success for the APC during the elections.

After extensive consultations with the President, key stakeholders, and his constituents, Lalong asserted that it became imperative for him to take his seat in the Red Chambers. He expressed his commitment to contributing to the Renewed Hope agenda of Tinubu’s Government and fostering the overall growth of Nigeria’s democracy.
