The Ekiti State Police Command has issued a statement refuting claims of a bank robbery in Ado-Ekiti and/or Ikere-Ekiti circulating on social media today, 19th December 2023.

The Command has clarified that the alarming news is a mere fabrication by individuals with ill intentions, urging the public to disregard the false information and continue with their daily activities without fear.

Ekiti Governor Vows Swift Action Following Ikere-Ekiti Bank Robbery 

An earlier report of a bank robbery at First Bank, Oja Oba Ado Ekiti, had caused panic. It was revealed that the sound of gunshots heard in the area was attributed to children playing with knockouts.

In response to the unfounded rumors, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ogundare Dare, has directed the immediate deployment of additional tactical and intelligence teams across the State, particularly in proximity to banking areas. The purpose of this measure is to ensure the safety of the public and to preempt any potential security threats.

The Ekiti State Police Command emphasizes that there is no ongoing bank robbery or security breach in the state and reassures citizens of the commitment to maintaining peace and order. The Police have called on the public to verify information before sharing it, stressing the importance of responsible dissemination of news.

Police Vows Swift Action Following  Ekiti Bank Robbery   

CP Ogundare Dare has taken a firm stance against those spreading false information, cautioning fake news peddlers to desist from their activities.

The Commissioner warns that stringent legal action will be taken against anyone found promoting fake news, emphasizing the serious consequences that await those who attempt to cause unwarranted panic in the community.

On the preceding Wednesday, two modern banks fell victim to armed robbers, leading to the theft of an undisclosed amount of money and the tragic loss of three lives. In response, the Ekiti State Police Command affirmed its dedication to capturing the perpetrators behind this crime.
