Daniel Etim-Effiong Backs Pastor Bolaji, Cites Reason For Spyro’s Church Performance

Daniel Etim-Effiong
Award-winning actor, Daniel Etim Effiong has thrown his weight behind Pastor Bolaji Idowu of Harvesters International Christian Centre following the backlash faced after inviting fast-rising artist Spyro to perform at his church.
It would be recalled that 42-year-old lead pastor sparked controversy as Spyro partook in a church musical, ‘Fantasia 2023’ after which sang his popular secular song, “Fine Girl,” during a recent church service.
The musical, which was live streamed stirred a backlash, with some arguing that secular singers had no place in a church setting.
Addressing critics, Daniel via his Instagram page on Monday disclosed that he was the producer of the musicial and was aghast at the negative publicity it got from people who did not attend the service. Setting things straight, Daniel listed reasons secular singer, Spryro starred in the production.

He further added that the church should be a safe space for everyone regardless what they do for a living, thanking everyone who attended this year edition of the drama production.
His statement reads;
“Fantasia 2023 was a fantastic experience and it was an honor and a privilege to be Producer of such a beautiful musical. Written by the beautiful @pearlagwu and directed by the phenomenal @kennethuphopho.
“I was however surprised to see the negative publicity about it this morning but quickly realised that it was from people who didn’t attend, so as an integral part of the production, I would like to set the record straight.
“1. Fantasia 2023: A Star is Born featured @spyro__official @skales @thedorathybachor @mclarryj @comediaphronesis and several other celebrities who are MEMBERS of @HarvestersNG and did not charge a fee to perform
“2. Registration was compulsory as a crowd control measure but tickets were absolutely FREE
“3. The musical took place in the evening and not during the regular Sunday Services which held as scheduled in the morning
“4. I’ve been in the Harvesters family for over a decade and Pastor @bolajiid has been a significant part of my spiritual and career growth and again it is an honor and a privilege to serve the church when I’m called. I’m sure this is how some of the other industry players also feel.
“The church should be a safe space for ALL, celebrity or no celebrity. Please let’s not be quick to condemn any church that makes itself a safe space for entertainers. We need Jesus too o. We need the covering and we are happy to serve.
“Thank you to everyone who attended Fantasia this year. I can’t wait for Fantasia 2024.”

Colleagues, fans  of the actor stormed the comment section of the post to commend him for the statement.
