Governors from the 19 Northern states collectively known as the Northern Governors Forum, at a crucial meeting in Kaduna on Friday, called upon the Federal Government to enhance its endeavors in addressing the escalating issues of banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, and other persistent security concerns affecting the region.
The governors emphasized the severe impact of these challenges on the socio-economic well-being of the Northern population.
Chairing the meeting, Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State expressed gratitude for the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to combating insecurity in the region but underscored the need for more comprehensive measures to bring an end to the persistent threats of banditry, kidnapping, communal clashes, and terrorism.
A focal point of concern during the meeting was the accidental military airstrike in Tundun Biri, Kaduna State. Governor Yahaya conveyed the collective determination of the governors to ensure a thorough investigation into the tragic incident.
The forum aims to provide compensation to the victims and institute corrective measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
