NNPC Mourns the Passing of Former GMD, Dr. Thomas Maurice Asuquo

In a sober announcement, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) confirmed the demise of Dr. Thomas Maurice Asuquo John, the esteemed former Group Managing Director.
 The news conveyed through an official statement signed by Chief Corporate Communications Officer Olufemi O. Soneye, NNPC Ltd on Thursday afternoon on NNPC X platform

Was accompanied by  heartfelt condolences on behalf of the entire NNPC Ltd. Management and Staff.
“The NNPC community mourns the loss of a remarkable leader, and our thoughts are with his loved ones. May his soul rest in peace,” the statement read.
GCEO Mr. Mele Kyari also expressed the company’s sympathies to the family of the departed leader.
Dr. John, a luminary in the oil and gas industry, played pivotal roles during his tenure, notably serving as the Acting Alternate Chairman of the Board of the now-defunct Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Recognized as a quintessential administrator and industry professional, he held the position of the 5th GMD of NNPC, succeeding the late Dr. Aret Adams from April 1990 to June 1992.
Beyond his contributions to NNPC, Dr. John made significant impacts in the sector. He served as a Non-Executive Director at South Atlantic Petroleum (SAPETRO), assumed the role of Executive Chairman at Hydropec Engineering Services Ltd., and held a former position as Non-Executive Director at United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc., among other notable positions.
