Fubara Signs N800 Billion 2024 Budget

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, sealed the fate of the state with the signing of the 2024 Appropriation Bill, totaling N800 billion. The event unfolded just a day after the budget estimates were presented to the State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Edison Ehie.

The signing ceremony, conducted in the conference room of the Governor’s Office at the Government House, was attended by key figures, including Deputy Governor Prof Ngozi Odu, State Executive Council members, current and former lawmakers supportive of Governor Fubara, and chairpersons of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across Local Government Areas.

Governor Fubara, addressing the gathering, emphasized the budget’s focus on ‘Renewed Hope, Consolidation, and Continuity.’ He pledged effective implementation, highlighting priorities such as the second phase of the Trans-Kalabari road and addressing the socio-economic needs of the populace.

Amidst the political skirmish, Speaker Edison Ehie, contending for the Speakership seat, praised the governor’s commitment to infrastructure and youth development.

The budget presentation came on the heels of the controversial demolition of the Assembly complex by the Ehie-led faction, which also declared vacant the seats of 27 members defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adding to the intrigue, the Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Zacheaus Adangor, tendered his resignation on the same day.
