Customs Probes Viral Video Of Officer Seeking Bribe At Lagos Airport

The Nigeria Customs Service says it has commenced a comprehensive investigation into a viral video of an officer caught requesting a N5,000 bribe at New Terminal, within the departure hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

Customs, in a statement released on Tuesday, said it had commenced an investigation, which revealed that the incident transpired at New Terminal, within the departure hall of Lagos airport.
Recall, a viral video captured a customs officer requesting a sum of 5000 Naira from a passenger, before processing customs procedures.
Speaking about the incident, the government agency urges passengers and the public to report any instances of misconduct or corruption promptly.
It says that these reports are crucial in upholding the integrity of their service and ensuring that officers adhere to the highest ethical standards.
The statement emphasizes on NCS’ unwavering unit commitment to fostering a culture of transparency and accountability.
The statement noted that the outcome of the investigation will be communicated to the public at the earliest opportunity.

‘’The recording reveals an inappropriate request for ₦5000 in exchange for expeditious processing of customs procedures. We wish to confirm that the Officer implicated is indeed a member of the Nigeria Customs Service, properly assigned to the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Area Command. The NCS strongly condemns this unprofessional conduct and is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of professionalism. A comprehensive investigation is underway to scrutinize the incident thoroughly, and appropriate actions will be taken.
