Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart Karibo Wilson has voiced confidence in Governor Siminalayi Fubara‘s popularity following the crisis that rocked the State’s political space on Monday.
Wilson asserted that Governor Fubara enjoys robust backing from various segments of the populace, including traditional leaders, youths, and other key demographics.
“Rivers people are in support of Fubara—the elders, the traditional rulers, senior political and opinion leaders, the youths, women—they are in support,” he said.
The political scene in Rivers State took a dramatic turn on Monday with the defection of 27 lawmakers from the Rivers State House of Assembly, shifting allegiance from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Concurrently, members from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and APC crossed over to the PDP over the weekend.
‘Wike Remains My Boss’ – Fubara Declares
Former House of Assembly candidate for Ahoada West constituency, Karibo Wilson, disclosed that his own defection to the PDP was influenced by the interests of the people.
Expressing skepticism over the motives of the 27 defected PDP lawmakers, Wilson questioned any potential impeachment moves against Governor Fubara, deeming them as being against the interests of the people.
The genesis of the crisis within the 32-member Assembly can be traced to a discord between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
