Night Raid: University Students Abducted at Lafia as Kidnapping Surge

Ten students of the Federal University of Lafia fell victim to a kidnapping by armed bandits suspected to be Fulani herders. The assailants reportedly invaded Gandu, a students’ community situated opposite the permanent site of the university, at approximately 2:00 a.m, Thursday night.

Eyewitnesses recount a terrifying scene as the armed men, equipped with firearms, forced their way into student residences, unleashing chaos by shooting and compelling students to evacuate. The operation unfolded over an alarming two-hour period, with residents left defenseless in the face of the armed perpetrators.

Confirming the distressing occurrence, the Public Relations Officer of the university, Abubakar Ibrahim, expressed uncertainty about the precise number of students taken captive. However, he acknowledged that the estimated count ranged from three to five abducted students.

“It is too early to ascertain the exact number of students because those affected are not living within the school premises but off campus. From available information, the number of students abducted is between three and five. The university is working hard to ensure all students live within the school campus,” Ibrahim added.

In response to the escalating crisis, the university community has been shaken, prompting students to stage a peaceful protest demanding an immediate end to the wave of kidnappings that has plagued the institution.

Confirming the occurrence, DSP Ranham Nansel, the Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Command, stated that the command has not verified the exact number of abducted students. Additionally, he mentioned that the identities of the victims remain unknown at this time.
