Protesters led by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) North West Zone and the Arewa Youth Movement stormed the National Assembly in Abuja today.
Their impassioned demonstration sought justice for the victims of a drone strike that claimed the lives of over 90 villagers in Kaduna State on Sunday.
For over two hours, the protesters, fueled by grief and anger, besieged the entrance gate, chanting slogans that echoed demands for accountability. A central demand of their protest was the resignation of the Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru, whom they accuse of incompetence in handling the security crisis.

The drone attack, which reportedly occurred during a Maulud celebration in Tudun Biri village, not only resulted in the tragic loss of over 90 lives but also left more than 60 people injured. The gravity of the situation was compounded by the military’s admission of responsibility for the incident.
“We are here today to demand justice for the victims of this senseless attack,” Ishaku said. “The killing of innocent Nigerians, especially in the Northern part of the country, cannot be tolerated any more.”
Speaking to the media amidst the chaos, NYCN North West Zone leader Nasir Ishaku strongly condemned the killing of innocent Nigerians. He called for a thorough and transparent probe into the incident to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
“The security situation in Nigeria has been deteriorating ever since Mr. Badaru was appointed Minister of Defence,” Ishaku said. “We are calling on him to either wake up to his responsibilities or resign.”
Ishaku did not mince words in his criticism of Minister Abubakar Badaru, asserting that the nation’s defence leadership is both incompetent and incapable of effectively managing the country’s security challenges.
