Construction giant Julius Berger has formally handed over the multi-billion naira Second Niger Bridge project to the Federal Government.
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, expressed satisfaction during a brief ceremony at the toll area, acknowledging the completion of repairs on vandalized portions.
Umahi highlighted the bridge’s openness to concession, inviting private companies to complete ancillary roads, manage toll collection, and recoup investments. Additionally, plans to alleviate festive season traffic at the old and new bridges are in progress, aiming to streamline transportation during the holidays.
The 1.6-kilometer-long Second Niger Bridge, linking Anambra and Delta states, holds historical significance, with its initial proposal dating back to the 1978/79 political campaign by Shehu Shagari of the National Party of Nigeria.
