Delay Persists in Bayelsa Governorship Results Collation 


Yenagoa, – The eagerly awaited resumption of the State Collation for the Bayelsa State governorship election results has faced a delay, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not yet commenced the process from the remaining two local government areas of Brass and Southern Ijaw, as of Monday afternoon.

Scheduled to take place at the State Collation Centre in the Prof Mahmood Yakubu Media Centre, INEC state office, Yenagoa, the commission had previously shifted the collation of results from Brass and Southern Ijaw from 7 pm on Sunday to 12 noon on Monday.

As of Sunday evening, the INEC State Returning Officer for the Bayelsa State governorship polls, Prof Kuta Farouq, had presided over the collation of results from six local governments, namely, Yenagoa, Ogbia, Nembe, Ekeremor, Sagbama, and Kolokuma/Opokuma.

Controversy Erupts as PDP’s Melaye Calls for Cancellation of Kogi Election 

The incumbent governor and candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Douye Diri, held the lead with 137,909 votes from five of the six local governments. Meanwhile, his main challenger, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had polled 703,503 votes, securing victory only in Nembe Local Government Area.

Mr. Wilfred Ifogah, the Head of the Department of Voter Education and Publicity at the INEC state office in Yenagoa, had initially announced at 7:35 pm on Sunday that the collation would resume at 12 noon on Monday. However, as of 12:15 pm, the exercise had yet to recommence, and the INEC officials were notably absent at the collation center.
