The Catholic Bishop of the Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Kukah, has extended a heartfelt plea to the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, urging him to safeguard the welfare of the populace amidst the prevailing political turmoil.

Expressing deep concern over Ajaero’s health, Bishop Kukah conveyed his sincerest condolences and well wishes for Ajaero’s swift recovery and proper medical care.

During an exclusive interview with Arise TV, Bishop Kukah vehemently denounced any attempts to exploit Ajaero’s medical condition for political advantage, specifically in the context of the upcoming electoral process in Imo State. Stressing the detrimental impact of canceling or postponing elections in the state, Bishop Kukah emphasized the paramount importance of ensuring the best interests of both the NLC and the people of Imo.

While emphasizing the need for Ajaero’s well-being, the Bishop cautioned against manipulating his health concerns to disrupt a process aimed at advancing the welfare of the people in Imo. He underscored the potential tragedy of using Ajaero’s health as a tool to derail a process designed for the overall betterment of the state.

According to Bishop Kukah, any decision to halt the electoral process in Imo State would be detrimental to the collective interests of the NLC and the citizens of the state.

He noted;

“As to the unfortunate situation in Imo, all I can say is to just add my voice to the voices of many other people and to call the president of the NLC to please, not to allow politics to gain the better hand of the people of Imo. I feel very sad. I was saddened to see what happened to NLC president Ajaero, and I hope that he’s getting treatment and getting better. But it will be a tragedy if his (Ajaero) condition is used as a political ploy to stoll a process that is for the good of the people of Imo. I mean, I don’t think that deciding that elections will not hold in Imo will be for the good of the NLC, nor will it be for the good of the people of Imo.”
