In a bid to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming elections in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa states, the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has announced a temporary ban on vehicular movement and transportation via waterways, effective from Friday onwards.

During a press briefing at the Force Headquarters on Tuesday, Egbetokun emphasized the need for stringent security measures to guarantee free, fair, and credible elections. Consequently, the IG has prohibited the operations of certain state security outfits, including Ebubeagu, and other quasi-security organizations during the electoral process.

Given the riverine terrain of the three states, the IG has deployed marine and gunboats to bolster security efforts. Additionally, the states have been equipped with various security assets, including the deployment of helicopters for aerial surveillance, as revealed by the Force spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
