Tinubu Proposes N2.2trn 2023  Supplementary Budget 


President Bola Tinubu has forwarded a proposal to the House of Representatives for the approval of a staggering N2,176,791,286,033 as a supplementary budget for the year 2023. This proposed allocation aims to cover various vital areas, including labor wage adjustments, bolstered security measures, and other pressing national requirements.

Additionally, the President has submitted the 2024-2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework & Fiscal Strategy Paper to the House of Representatives. This comprehensive plan outlines the strategic financial trajectory for the upcoming years, shedding light on the government’s long-term fiscal approach.

Recently, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) convened a meeting, during which the 2023 supplementary budget was greenlit, with a total approval of N2.1 trillion.

Speaking in the aftermath of the FEC meeting held in Abuja, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, emphasized the urgent nature of the approved budget, citing its critical role in addressing immediate national exigencies.

“The council considered a request for supplementary appropriation which is a second for 2023,” he said at the State House in Abuja.

“And graciously approved the sum of N2,176,791,286,033 as supplementary budget and this supplementary budget is to fund urgent issues including N605 billion for national defence and security.

“This is to sustain the gains made in security and to accelerate and these are funds that are needed by the security agencies before the year runs out. ”
