Fuel Prices Poised to Experience Substantial Drop November

In what comes as a much-needed relief for South African motorists, the mineral resources and energy department is set to unveil significant decreases in fuel prices for November. The anticipated adjustments have been revealed through unaudited data sourced from the Central Energy Fund (CEF), with the Automobile Association (AA) indicating potential reductions in petrol and diesel costs.

According to the latest data, the upcoming changes could see a substantial drop in petrol prices, with a projected decrease of up to R2 per liter for ULP95 and R1.96 per liter for ULP93. Additionally, diesel prices are expected to witness a notable decrease of approximately R1.08 per liter, while illuminating paraffin might experience a reduction of 98 cents per liter.

“After three months of significant increases, petrol and diesel prices are expected to fall below the R25/l mark again,” the AA said.

“This is good news for motorists, consumers and the economy, especially heading to the end of the year. These decreases come as South Africans struggle financially and will be welcome relief from the substantial increases seen since August. In July, a litre of ULP95 cost R22.46 (inland). Should the expected decrease materialise, the November price for a litre of ULP95 inland will cost about R23.68.”

Fuel Price Hike Casts Shadow Over DRC Election Preparations, Commuters Suffer Hardship

According to the association, the indications from the CEF data suggest a significant decline in average international product prices throughout October, primarily contributing to the impending drops. Despite a weakened rand, which has somewhat tempered the anticipated decreases, its influence remains relatively insignificant in the broader context. This assessment extends to the pricing trends observed in diesel and illuminating paraffin as well.

The AA reiterated its advice for motorists, emphasizing the importance of maintaining their vehicles in sound mechanical condition and ensuring that their tires are inflated according to the manufacturer’s specifications. Additionally, they suggested minimizing trips when feasible, using air conditioners conservatively, and avoiding overloading the vehicle, all of which can contribute to reducing fuel consumption.

“Though we are expecting fuel to be cheaper in November, we remain concerned about the overall high prices which affect all consumers. A sustainable solution to mitigating rising fuel costs is still necessary and until that solution is found, citizens will be at the mercy of fuel price hikes,” the AA said.

The department is anticipated to issue an official statement regarding the revised prices for November shortly, preceding the scheduled adjustment set to take effect on Wednesday, November 1.
