The much-anticipated decision from the Supreme Court regarding the disputed 2023 presidential election is set to be revealed on Thursday, October 26, 2023.
Supreme Court Sets Oct. 26 to Decide Election Dispute Involving Abubakar, Obi, Tinubu
The legal battle involves the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, the People’s Democratic Party’s nominee, Atiku Abubakar, and the All Progressives Congress’ aspirant, Bola Tinubu.
Following the September 6 ruling by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) favoring Tinubu, both Abubakar and Obi lodged appeals, leading to this critical juncture. Confirmation of the judgement date was made by all parties involved on Wednesday, heightening the anticipation.
During the last session on Monday, the Supreme Court reserved judgement, taking into account arguments presented by all legal counsels. One key aspect of the case included Atiku’s motion to introduce fresh evidence on alleged forged documents, which his legal representative, Chris Uche, vehemently advocated for.
Conversely, lawyers representing the Respondents, including Abubakar Mahmoud for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wole Olanipekun for President Tinubu, and Akin Olujinmi for the All Progressives Congress (APC), contended that the motion and appeal lacked merit and should be dismissed.
