The Supreme Court has recently announced the reservation of judgment in the appeal lodged by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This appeal was filed against the September 6 judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) affirming the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the last presidential election.
Chaired by Justice John Okoro, a seven-member panel of the court revealed the decision following the adoption of briefs of argument and final submissions by the legal representatives of the parties involved. The court also heard arguments concerning the appellants’ motion to introduce fresh evidence.
Chris Uche (SAN), the lawyer for the appellants, urged the court to grant the motion, sustain their appeal, and disqualify President Tinubu.
However, legal representatives for the respondents, including Abubakar Mahmoud, SAN (representing the Independent National Electoral Commission), Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN (representing Tinubu), and Chief Akin Olujinmi, SAN (representing the All Progressives Congress), urged the court to dismiss both the motion and appeal on grounds of lacking merit.
