The Kwara State Government has taken a compassionate step towards alleviating the suffering of the victims involved in the recent Nigerian Correctional Service vehicle accident at the Oja Oba roundabout in Ilorin.
According to a statement issued by the state Hospitals Management Board, signed by the Press Secretary, Halimat Zulu-Gambari, the government has assured the public that it will cover the medical expenses of all seven victims involved in the tragic incident.
Reportedly, the accident resulted in the admission of five individuals to the General Hospital, Ilorin, with the remaining two promptly treated and discharged. Thankfully, the hospital management has indicated that the five patients currently under their care are in stable condition, receiving necessary treatment and care.
Acknowledging the financial burden that often accompanies medical emergencies, the state government has directed the Hospital Management Board to waive all medical and prescription costs incurred by the accident victims during their stay in the hospital.
“The attention of the Kwara State Hospitals Management Board was today, October 19, 2023, called to the accident involving a vehicle of the Nigerian Correctional Services at Oja Oba Ilorin. Seven victims suffered varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to General Hospital Ilorin for treatment.
“Two of the victims were later discharged after assessments and treatment, while the remaining five (5) were placed on admission. They are all in stable condition. Two of them sustained fractures and have been scheduled for surgery.
“General Hospital Ilorin has been directed by the Kwara State Hospitals Management Board to waive all medical and prescription fees of the victims, given the circumstances of the sad incident.
“The Hospitals Management Board wishes all the victims safe recoveries,” the statement said.
It should be noted that an accident occurred at the Oja Oba locality of Ilorin, Kwara state, involving a vehicle from the convoy of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

The vehicle was en route to the Kwara State High Court, Ilorin, transporting several inmates for their court proceedings on Thursday. Regrettably, the incident resulted in injuries to approximately seven individuals.
