FCTA Commences Palliative Distribution

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has launched a palliative distribution program. This initiative aims to provide support to the vulnerable residents of the FCT, offering relief during these challenging economic times.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has initiated the distribution of vital palliatives to the underprivileged and vulnerable residents of the territory.

This effort is part of a broader strategy led by the Tinubu administration to alleviate the adverse consequences resulting from the removal of fuel subsidies.

Violent Clash Erupts in Ondo State Over Palliative Distribution

Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, assumed a central role in this endeavor as she personally oversaw the initial distribution of an impressive quantity of relief supplies. A staggering 17,222 bags of rice and 8,400 bags of maize were disbursed on behalf of the Administration during this inaugural phase.

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory can rest assured that every deserving family residing within the six area councils and 17 chiefdoms of the FCT will receive these essential palliative items entirely free of charge, according to Minister Mahmoud.

Furthermore, she disclosed that in addition to the food provisions, which will be distributed in stages, the government is actively exploring other avenues to ameliorate the impact of the fuel subsidy removal.

“There is no doubt that the policy has had a ripple effect on transportation, inflation, and an overall burden on the citizenry.

“It is in the realisation of these challenges that the Federal Government has been taking several measures to bring succour to Nigerians, amongst which is the release of assorted food items from the National Strategic Reserve for urgent distribution to Nigerians.

“We will ensure that every deserving family in the FCT receives these items free of charge”, the minister said.

She encouraged residents to be prudent in their daily lives, emphasizing President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to stabilizing prices, fostering economic growth, and improving citizens’ well-being.

She urged beneficiaries to use the food wisely and share with the needy, as the President aimed to make the economy self-sufficient in food production.

The Permanent Secretary of the FCTA, Mr. Olusade Adesola, represented by Mr. Samuel Attang, mentioned measures to monitor food distribution. The Mandate Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, Lawan Geidam, vowed to ensure the equitable distribution of palliatives to their intended recipients.

“The secretariat has put in place an efficient and transparent distribution system to ensure that the process is fair, equitable, and devoid of any form of favouritism or discrimination”

Geidam also praised the significant dedication of Nigerian farmers in maintaining a consistent food supply despite challenges. He acknowledged their hard work and resilience, recognizing their pivotal role in mitigating the economic challenges in the country.

As we move ahead in the task of delivering the dividends of democracy, I am optimistic that the commitment, dedication and vision that have been demonstrated by the new FCT leadership, will pave the way for a transformative era that will bring forth self-sufficiency in food production,” he added.
