Ondo: Abducted Choristers Regain Freedom After Ransom Payment


Ondo – After nearly a week, the remaining members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Igan, Akure, Ondo state, who were abducted last Friday while on their way to a funeral ceremony, have finally regained their freedom. Their release came after a tense negotiation process that involved the payment of a substantial ransom.

Nineteen choristers from the CAC congregation were abducted along the Ifon-Benin road, Ondo State. The kidnappers demanded a staggering ₦50 million as ransom for their release, leaving their families and the church in a state of distress.

However, the situation took a turn when eight of the victims managed to escape from their captors just one day after their abduction, on Saturday. However, negotiate still continued for the release of the remaining eleven victims.

After days of negotiations, the tension reached its climax late Thursday night when the kidnappers finally released the eleven remaining victims. It was reported that a substantial ransom was paid to secure their freedom, although the exact amount remains undisclosed.

The negotiating team from the church successfully brought the eleven released victims back to the premises of the CAC in Akure, marking the end of a traumatic episode that had gripped the community and State.

Prior to their release, residents of Ondo State had voiced their grievances, accusing the State Government of inaction in addressing the situation and expressing skepticism about the Police’s claims of being in control of the situation.
