Suspended Unical Law Dean  Arrested by DSS

Prof Cyril Ndifon, Suspected Dean of Law Faculty, UNICAL

Prof Cyril Ndifon, the suspended Dean of the Law University of Calabar, has been taken into custody by the Department of State Services (DSS). This arrest comes in response to the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission’s (ICPC) persistent efforts to question Ndifon regarding allegations of sexual misconduct.

Despite several invitations from the ICPC, Ndifon allegedly refused to cooperate with the investigation into the University of Calabar (UNICAL) Sex Scandal, which had raised concerns among the university community and the general public. Consequently, the ICPC sought the assistance of the DSS to ensure Ndifon’s compliance with their inquiries.

Sexual Harassment: UNICAL Students Protests Against Dean

Dr. Peter Afunanya, the Spokesman for the DSS, confirmed in a statement on Thursday that Ndifon was apprehended in Calabar, Cross River State, on Wednesday, following a court order.

“However, the Service, following the Commission’s request and in the spirit of interagency cooperation, supported it for a successful operation,” Afunanya explained.

“This is to guide public understanding of the latest developments on the matter,” the statement added.

The allegations against Ndifon emerged after female students of the Unical Law School raised concerns about his alleged sexual misconduct.

In response, the university suspended him and initiated a panel to investigate the allegations. The panel recently submitted its findings, recommending sanctions against Ndifon, including allegations of extortion of funds.
