Gunmen Attack Plateau, Nine Dead

In a tragic incident on Sunday night, gunmen launched a deadly assault on Adu village in the Kwal District of Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, resulting in the loss of nine lives.

The spokesperson for the Miango Youths Development Association, Nuhu Bitrus, confirmed this devastating news in a press statement on Monday.

The attack occurred at approximately 9 pm local time on Sunday. As a consequence of the event, the village decided to cancel all activities initially planned for the celebration of Nigeria’s 63rd anniversary. Instead, they have dedicated today to mourning and prayer for the safety of their people.

Nuhu Bitrus, the youth leader, expressed his sorrow over the tragic loss, saying, “We are not happy that we are today mourning the death of nine of our people in Adu village who were killed last night (Sunday) in an attack. It is unfortunate that while others are celebrating Nigeria’s 63rd independence, we are gathering in Kwal to bury our people. As a community, we had planned to celebrate Nigeria’s 63rd independence celebration today (Monday) with a lot of activities but we are not doing that anymore. We have turned the event into a prayer day for the safety of our communities.”

Furthermore, Bitrus called upon government authorities at all levels to take immediate and effective measures to prevent further attacks on Bassa communities, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced security and protection.

At the time of this report, the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, is yet to comment on the incident.
